SonoCon SC Acoustical Panels and Enclosures

SonoCon SC Acoustical Panels are available in thicknesses of 2-1/4", 4-1/4" and 6" to match the application's sound transmission loss, the sound absorption and the structural requirements. Manufactured of standard components, they SonoCon SC acoustical panels can be configured as complete or partial enclosures. SonoCon enclosures are often provided with silenced ventilation systems, electrical power and lighting. Engineered to meet local building codes, drawings and structural calculations sealed by a registered structural or civil engineer are supplied during the approval drawing process.

Materials & Construction

Acoustical enclosures and sound barriers shall be installed on a level foundation adequate to accommodate the structural loads. The acoustical structure shall be constructed of Sono-Con acoustically rated panels. Panels are to be 4-1/4" or 2-1/4" thick fabricated of G90 galvanized steel. Acoustical panels are to consist of 22 gage perforated steel with 3/32" diameter holes spaced on 3/16" staggered centers with 18 gage solid sheet exterior face. The sound absorbing core shall be incombustible, inorganic and inert; it shall be vermin proof and mildew resistant.

Panels shall be internally stiffened with 16 gage galvanized steel members to safely accommodate the spans shown on the drawings. Stiffener spans should not exceed 24". Perimeter and internal reinforcement shall be welded to the solid face sheet to form a rugged, unitized acoustic component. Weld centers should not exceed three inches. The acoustic fill shall be packed under compression without voids so as to secure the acoustic core under severe vibrations.

Details

Doors

Acoustical doors shall be constructed similar to the sound control panels and shall match the acoustical enclosure noise reduction requirements. Door leaf and frame shall be furnished as an assembly with acoustical compression or magnetic seals. Door hardware shall be industrial grade. Hinges shall be heavy duty selected for door usage and weight. Operation shall comply with Uniform Building Code requirements. Door sizes shall be as shown on the drawings and to be complete with windows, operators, and locksets as specified.

Windows

Acoustical windows shall be factory furnished in panels or door leafs. Windows shall consist of two layers of tempered or wire glass (1/4" minimum) separated by an air space. Window glazing shall provide an air tight space containing a desiccant to prevent misting.

Accessories

Floor track, panel top track and panel connecting hardware shall be roll formed 16 gauge G90 galvanized steel. Enclosure trim and penetration framing shall be manufactured of 18 gauge galvanized steel and be detailed and sealed as needed to prevent acoustical flanking.

Removable access plugs, equipment hatches and hinged viewing ports shall be constructed. Cam or wedge operated latches shall be provided equipped with inside and outside handles.

Pipe and conduit penetrations shall be field cut and framed in accordance with manufacturers instructions.

Thermal Ratings

Panel construction shall provide a heat transfer factor (U) of 0.07 BTUH with the enclosure assembly having a heat transfer factor (U) of 0.14 BTUH.

Fire Ratings

Panel constructions shall meet UL Fire Hazard Ratings per ASTM E-84 or latest version thereof :
Flame Spread : 15
Fuel Contributed : 0
Smoke Developed : 0

Acoustical Performance

Transmission Loss (TL) of the acoustical panel assemblies shall be determined by the dual reverberation room method by an independent acoustical laboratory in accordance with ASTM Specification E-90 or latest revisions thereof.

Sound absorption coefficients of the composite panel assembly when tested by an independent acoustical testing laboratory in accordance with the requirements of ANSI/ASTM C423 and E-795 or the latest version thereof shall be equal to or greater than those.

Structural Performance

Enclosures shall be engineered and erected in accordance with the structural requirements of the Uniform Building Code (UBC). All mechanical equipment, electrical devices, and their installation shall be as required by the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building regulations.
